Well, we’re certainly excited here at Detecting 101! In celebration of having broken the 4,000-follower level on our Facebook page, we have launched a Detecting 101 YouTube channel to accompany our series of Quickstart Guides for beginning metal detectorists.

The first guide in the series, Metal Detecting for Beginners: 101 Things I Wish I’d Known When I Started, was published in April, 2016. It has since gone on to lead three Amazon categories as a bestseller, and has likely surpassed 5,000 copies sold in print at this point (it’s a constantly changing number).

The second volume in the series is currently in development, and we will be announcing the title and publishing date soon, so watch our social feeds.

Since I’ve also launched my new fulltime RV living lifestyle last year, I’m getting more opportunities to metal detect in far-flung places around this great country of ours. I’ve already covered 11 of the Lower 48 States, and will have almost 20 under my belt by the end of May this year. That’s a lot of different types of terrain, soil, history, and—of course—artifacts. It’s a big change-up that’s going to result in lots of chances for great vids and lots of different types of new finds!

We’ll also concentrate some on serious show-and-tell for proven techniques for research, swinging, digging, cleaning, preserving and displaying finds. We’ll also be doing some reviews of machines, equipment, gear and accessories, as well as other informational resources you might find useful as beginning detectorists. This will be the kind of detailed stuff that makes it like having a live tutor right there to learn from, so come back often to see what we have in store for you!

For now, check out the first vid we’ve posted on our YouTube channel and enjoy lots of coolness packed into a brief vid! We’d appreciate you subscribing to help us build some momentum with the YouTube channel, and hope you enjoy it!
